Inspired
by the landscapes, art, and experience of overseas culture, President
Steve Mustukas founded Nusantara in 1980, after hitchhiking around
the world and discovering his passion for textiles, artifacts,
and all things handmade and unique.
From the early days of being stationed in Thailand to his current
travels of the far-east, Steve' s mission has remained unchanged:
to find unique, one-of-a-kind goods produced in ways that help
rather than exploit artisans in less developed countries. He believes
in sharing the beauty of the east with those in the west.
Currently, Steve
Mustukas has traveled to over 35 countries and visits Indonesia,
China, Laos, Thailand, India, and Nepal four times a year to continue
his quest for the exotic and unusual.
Over time, Steve
has developed an extensive line of fashion accessories, all handcrafted
and made from the finest silks, wools, and Pashmina. Nusantara's
warehouse is unsurpassed with an enormous collection of one-of-a-kind
textiles, hand-carved artifacts, rare and unusual beads, and antique
furniture. His collection only continues to grow with his love
of travel and the far-east.
